Running Around the Web This Week – 001

Hello everyone!

This is the first of our new series of weekly running links from around the interwebs.

This week: Nike and Adidas in the spotlight; the new Saucony Mirage 3; and a new running hydration concept.

Nike nominated most innovative company of 2013 by FastCompany

FastCompany just released their top-50 list of the most innovative companies in 2013. The top 20 includes some very familiar names: from Amazon to Google, from Pinterest to Samsung. It’s a surprise to find a sports company at #1. After all, they just do shoes and t-shirts, right ?

The two innovations that won Nike the award, together with a company culture that encourages and nurishes innovation, are the Fuel Band and the Flyknit upper. The first because actually connects people’s physical life with their digital presence, the second because it is a totally new way to produce footwear that required a complete re-thinking of Nike’s production process.

You can read more about it on the extremely insightful FastCompany article.

Adidas announced they will make EVA obsolete

Nike’s biggest competitor, Adidas, also made the news this week. On February 13th, during a press event in New York, they announced the release of the new Energy Boost running shoe (click here for our review). The claim is simple but bold: they created, together with BASF, a completely new material for midsoles that has the highest energy return of all currently used EVA foams, performing better for longer and at all temperatures.

You can read more about the new Adidas Energy Boost here.

The new Saucony Mirage 3 is out!

The nice folks at Sneakerreport published some pictures of the newly released Saucony Mirage 3, a shoe that promises to be to runners who need support what the Kinvara is for neutral runners.

Check out the pictures on Sneaker Report.

Hydrosleeve (TM) will make you drink from your shoulder

How do you keep hydrated while you run? Sure, having fountains along the way is great but not always possible. Other solutions are holding a bottle in your hand, wearing a Batman-hydration-belt or a Camelbak backpack.

Hydrosleeve is a new company that thought of a different way to drink: by a puch that is strapped to your arm (in a similar fashion to how people carry their mobile phones while running). The pouch has a 7 oz. capacity and allows you to drink by simply reaching to your bicep.

It’s a clever concept that deserves to hit the stores. The company has finished designing and prototyping the product and now wants to start mass production.

For more info about the Hydrosleeve, including a video and find out how you can help them make this product a reality, visit their indiegogo page here: http://www.indiegogo.com/hydrosleeve

That’s all – for this week!

This concludes our first ever “Running Around the Web This Week”. We hope you’ll find the news and links we post here interesting. Feel free to send us your recommendations for articles/products/news we might have missed at guru(at)www.runningshoesguru.com !
