The Hyperion Elite 2 sits amongst the ranks of the Saucony Endorphin Pro, Nike Vaporfly and Alphafly, Sketchers Speed Elite, and New Balance Fuelcell TC when it comes to running shoes designed to get you on the marathon podium.

The upper remains the same from the Hyperion Elite, but there have been vast improvements in the midsole, including new foam and an increased stack height, which has translated fantastically into improved running performance.

The new DNA Flash midsole and carbon fibre propulsion plate gives a perfect harmony of cushioning and energy return to run faster and for longer. Rapid Roll midsole technology offers a fast and efficient turnover. The midsole extends medially and laterally to give a wide base for added stability.

The outsole remains light by placing only strategic rubber in high abrasion areas, which places a question mark over the durability of the shoe, or performance on a wet or slippy road.

A stretch woven mesh upper, and minimal padding assist in keeping weight down. The upper contains many lace eyelets, and specially designed laces which stay put during a run and give good lock down to the foot.

Who is it for?

The Hyperion Elite 2 is recommended for marathon runners on race day who are serious about shaving seconds off their time. For lovers of a high stack height, cushioned, carbon plated race day shoe, this is the one for you. If you tried the Hyperion Elite 1 and found it lacking, the improvements in the second version are well worth a try.

Road Trail Run

The unusually wide platform (in this category) combined with a secure but still accommodating fit makes for a very comfortable ride and feel. Especially for a lightweight racer. It’s very versatile but really shines at faster paces. However, it still provides just the right amount of cushion and stability to work as a daily trainer and long distance workout shoe for most runners as well.

Believe in the Run

The DNA FLASH isn’t as bouncy as Nike’s ZoomX, but it does have some bounce and the Rapid Roll rocker shape really keeps the legs moving. I feel the roll most prominently right behind the toes. The fast transition sensation is provided by a fulcrum that creates speedy turnover. During an 8.5 mile run I was able to float nearly effortlessly averaging 10 seconds over marathon goal pace (7:39). Additionally, I did my first speed workout since last February and was able to hit splits by feel, averaging in the mid 6-minute pace. The best part is how fresh my legs felt post-workout. All in all, I have put 40 miles in the Hyperion Elite 2 before writing this review, and I look forward to getting in some more after. The DNA FLASH doesn’t show any signs of losing its pop.

Running North West

The Brooks Hyperion Elite 2 is really the shoe Brooks should have released on day one, but kudos to them for learning from their mistake and producing an infinitely better shoe. What they have now is something that can truly stand side by side next to the other big players in the game and really put down some solid numbers while also keeping the legs cushioned throughout. The original version was also meant for race day only and was designed to almost be disposable after 50-100 miles, the Elite 2 is designed for 200 to 400 miles of use before moving on. If you were looking for an alternative to the Alphafly and want to see what another solid performance shoe looks like, then definitely have a look at these.
