This is just an overview, not a review. We did not test the Levitate 3 yet.
The Brooks Levitate 3 is a neutral running shoe with a flat knit, sock-like upper, using the Brooks' brand latest midsole technology of the DNA AMP foam for a cushioned, responsive run. Sitting alongside the Levitate 3 in the premium end of Brooks' Energize line with flat knit uppers, is the Bedlam and Ricochet. This is a range which was created to deliver a springy ride full of positive energy, with the main difference between the models being based on whether you require a Neutral or Stability running shoe.

The Levitate 3 is similar in looks to the Brooks Bedlam 2, which offers a more stable ride for a different style of runner. Also similar to the Bedlam 2 is the outsole arrow point pattern which gives both durability on a variety of terrains and flexibility. The DNA AMP foam system in the midsole of both consists of a soft foam, with a coating to prevent it spreading horizontally, and to deliver a more energized run.

The upper has been redesigned from previous models and consist of a snug, flat knit mesh that fits like a sock. This material does risk becoming heavier on a run if it gets wet from sweat or weather, making an already weighty (11.6oz) shoe, even heavier.

Style-wise the contrast between the chrome effect sole on the Levitate 3, and knit upper may not be everyone's preference but the shoe does come in a wide range of colorways, including limited edition patterns so you can definitely find one to suit. The Levitate 3 looks like it demands it's premium price tag, and fits in well with others in the same price range.

If you're fan of a knit upper, and not planning on running in weather extremes, the Brooks Levitate 3 could be the shoe for you for daily running over mid distances

Who is it for?

The Brooks Levitate 3 is recommended for the neutral runner, who doesn't mind sacrificing the weight of the shoe for a cushioned responsive run. The Levitate 3 is priced at the premium end of the Brooks' Energize range, and only slightly lower than the neutral Ghost 12 GTX and is for a runner who wants to pay a bit more to have all the brand's latest technology on their feet.
