Summary

This is just an overview, not a review. We did not test the Cavu 3 yet.
Hoka One One shoes in general are designed to cradle and cushion the feet, and bring a floating feel to running, which is clear from the chunky soles and sleek upper in the Cavu 3. This new iteration of the Cavu range is part of the FLY collection, including the Elevon and Mach, and is Hoka's most lightweight range. Of the 3 models in the range, the Cavu is the lowest priced and also the lightest. The Cavu 3 is an improved version on the Cavu 2, offering soft landings, springy toe-offs and a lightweight run.

As with all Hoka running shoes, the Cavu 3 contains a Meta-rocker midsole, giving a low heel-toe differential. This teamed with the sculptured outsole, aids a guided running gait cycle. The Meta-rocker in the Cavu 3 is designed to give a smoother ride, and fast transitions, making it a great running shoe for uptempo runs. The midsole contains both ProFLY and EVA foam to give the best of both worlds; soft comfortable landings thanks to the EVA, and responsiveness from the much stiffer ProFLY.

The outsole is rubberised EVA and exposed EVA. There isn't loads of grip, so this running shoe will fare better on a dry road run, or a treadmill versus other conditions.

The upper is where most of the changes have been made since the Cavu 2. It now features a snug stretch knit upper, and no tongue, yet slips on easily and provides a comfortable fit.

Also great for treadmill work and light workouts in the gym, this running shoe is a fantastic all rounder.

Who is it for?

The Cavu 3 is recommended for runners who like a super light, maximalist running shoe that offers neutral support. It performs equally well on roads and the treadmill and for gym workouts at the beginning or end of a running training session. Overall this running shoe was many runners' favourite release from Hoka, and at a great price.
