Summary
This is just an overview, not a review. We did not test the Torrent yet.The Hoka One One Torrent has lots of tread without being overbearing. The shoe is lightweight, breathable, and provides good traction on uncertain terrain. If you are looking for a solid trail racer, the Torrent is a good option because of its responsiveness and ability to handle short or long runs.
The midsole of the Torrent features ProFly, which is soft in the heel and firmer in the toe. This helps to protect against rough landings and provide you with good feedback with a smooth heel to toe transition. ProFly is made with EVA foam for a good balance between protection and support.
The Torrent has a rounded toebox for more room. One downside to this shoe is the toe bang makes the area not as stretchy, so you may need to tighten up the laces as you go down hills. The heel collar has good padding so there should be no hot spots rubbing against your ankles.
The upper is open mesh with rubber overlays to help keep water out. It is breathable and keeps the shoe lightweight. A heel cup provides extra stability but it is a little heavier than the rest of the shoe. On the outsole you will notice 4mm lugs that are multidirectional to dig deep into wet or dry terrain to help keep traction.
