Summary

New Balance's Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer is designed for weight training, CrossFit, and high intensity workouts. The Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer is New Balance's answer to increasing demand for CrossFit-style training shoes, aiming to challenge the likes of the Reebok Nano 9, and Nike Metcon 5.

The benefits of this type of workout for runners include building muscles in your legs and feet which long term can aid injury prevention, and also improving up your cardiovascular fitness, which can help with performance in faster parts of your training, or that sprint finish at the end of a race.

The Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer is one of the only training shoes out there to come in 2 widths so may be a good choice if you've previously struggled with the width on other training shoes.

The durable, engineered upper contains TPU fibres for added abrasion resistance when putting the shoe through a tough workout, and won't wear down as fast as a traditional running shoe. The tongue is thin and ventilated

The heel to toe drop is just 4mm, which is ideal for a training shoe, meaning your centre of gravity remains over your heels when squatting, and targets the intended muscles you're aiming to build strength in.

The outsole is durable rubber Vibram, and is very flat to increase your surface contact with the ground, to assist with grip, and 'feel' of the floor when lifting weights. This is great for their intended indoor use. This outsole wraps slightly up the sides of the shoe to protect for rope climbs, but isn't as exaggerated as other Crossfit training shoes. This smaller sole unit makes the Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer the lightest Crossfit style training shoe on the market currently.

Who is it for?

The Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer is recommended for people who want to add strength work to their gym workouts and may be currently training in a running shoe. New Balance's answer to the Nike Metcon 5 and Reebok Nano 9 is similar in many features that you'd expect from a training shoe, and slightly lighter. If you're a runner looking to improve your cardiovascular fitness or muscular strength in the gym the Minimus Prevail Cross Trainer will do the job.
