Summary

This is just an overview, not a review. We did not test the Romaleos 3 yet.
The Nike Romaleos 3 are modern, lightweight, weightlifting shoes designed for people who like to incorporate some Olympic or Powerlifting into their workouts, or for people doing Crossfit, who want to add a specific weightlifting shoe to their repertoire for strength part of their workouts.

Strength workouts with weights and barbells (squats, clean and jerks, deadlifts, snatches) can be great if you're a runner looking to build strength. Contrary to some beliefs that strength work will make you bulky and slow you down as a runner, it's actually great at working muscles around joints to protect you from injury and also build speed.

Compared to other weightlifting shoes (lifters) the Nike Romaleos 3 look much more like a regular sneaker or training shoe. What makes them different is the partially hollow TPU sole giving height under the heel to assist with stability and ankle mobility when lifting, They also feature a strap over the laces to lock in the midfoot securely.

The upper features a synthetic leather toe box, with mesh underneath with cut outs for ventilation and flexibility. The tongue is thin but durable.

The shoe comes with an option of a firm insole for 'competition' and a softer one for 'training'.

Who is it for?

The Romaleos 3's are recommended for anyone looking to add a pair of weightlifting shoes to their training shoe repertoire. They're lightweight, somewhat versatile and look as great as you'd expect from Nike. If you're a serious weightlifter these may not cut the mustard for you, but for the vast majority of people out there they'll do the job superbly.
