The midsole of the Megablast is made of FF Turbo Squared, a new A-TPU midsole foam which is lightweight and energetic. This midsole feels better at uptempo paces than at relaxed paces.
The Superblast 2 has a dual-density midsole. It has ASICS’ racing foam, FF Turbo+ on the top and it has a thin layer of FF Blast+ ECO. The FF Turbo+ provides a high level of energy return while the FF Blast+ provides a durable, stable base. The Superblast 2 feels good at slow paces as well as fast ones.
Both trainers have no plates in their soles but the Megablast has a stiffer forefoot thanks to its firmer midsole foam. They both have forefoot rockers but the forefoot rocker is more prominent in the Megablast.
The Megablast is better suited to fast-paced running such as tempo, threshold and interval workouts. Its midsole doesn’t compress much so it provides a firm platform to push off from. FF Turbo Squared also returns more energy at fast paces.
The Superblast 2 is more suited to relaxed running: recovery and easy runs. Its ride is softer and plusher than the Megablast so it feels more natural at slow paces and it doesn’t feel as slappy against the ground as the Megablast.
When it comes to stability, the Superblast 2 is more stable than the Megablast. This is because it has a wider base so foot strikes feel more planted. If you need a more supportive ride, the Superblast 2 is the better option.
Both trainers have durable outsoles but the Megablast has the more durable outsole. This is due to its exposed midsole foam on the outsole being firmer and more resistant to scrapes and chips. Both have good traction on wet and dry surfaces.
The Megablast upper is made of a thin, plastic-like material that doesn’t stretch. It has good breathability and it doesn’t absorb much liquid. It has padding on the inside of the heel so it feels comfortable around your ankles. It has excellent foot lockdown. It has a true to size fit but it’s very narrow in the toe box so it’s not suitable for wide footed runners. It’s not available in a wide version.
The Superblast 2 upper is also thin but it’s a bit thicker and conforms to your feet better than the Megablast. It has good breathability but it absorbs a bit more liquid so it can pick up more water weight. It also has excellent foot lockdown. The Superblast 2 fits true to size with a narrow fit however it’s a bit more spacious than the Megablast so it’s better for wide feet. It’s also not available in a wide version.
If you’re looking a really fast, unplated super trainer for mainly uptempo paces, the Megablast is the shoe you should buy. It has a firm midsole which is best suited to fast paces. It also has a racing-like upper that doesn’t absorb much liquid. It has a more durable outsole than the Superblast 2 and is slightly lighter but it costs $25 more.
If you’re looking for a versatile, unplated super trainer, the Superblast 2 is the shoe you should buy. It has a softer ride so it feels better when you’re running at relaxed paces. The Superblast 2 has a more spacious, more comfortable upper than the Megablast. The Superblast 2 also has a more stable ride.
