The Vomero Premium is the top of the range trainer in the Vomero series. It's designed to give you the softest, plushest ride of any Nike trainer. It costs $230. The Vomero Plus is the mid-range trainer in the Vomero series. It's designed to give you a more energetic, more versatile running experience. It costs $180.
This comparison will tell you which model is better suited to you.
The Vomero Premium has an extremely soft, plush ride. It has a ZoomX midsole with 2 Zoom Air units in the middle of its midsole. Its stack height in the heel is 55 mm, which makes it one of the highest currently on the market.
The Vomero Plus also has a soft ride but not as plush as the Premium. It has a full ZoomX midsole with no air units. Its stack height is much lower than the premium, coming in at 45 mm for a men’s US9.
The Premium is better suited to slow, recovery runs because of how extremely plus its ride is. It’s difficult to pick up the pace in the Premium as your feet sink down into the midsole with each foot strike. The Plus is better suited to fast runs because it’s much lighter than the Premium. It’s also much more energetic as its midsole is firmer and more responsive. It’s very easy to pick up the pace in the Plus.
If you need stability, the Plus is better for you. Your feet sit lower to the ground in the Plus and it has a firmer midsole so there’s less lean bias- it feels less wobbly than the Premium.
The Premium has a stiffer midsole than than the Plus. This is due to the air units which act like a plate and stiffen the midsole. The stiffer midsole and higher toe spring give the Premium a more prominent rocker than the Plus.
When it comes to the outsoles, the Vomero Plus has more rubber coverage and is more durable than the Premium. The premium has a wide central channel with no rubber coverage to save weight. Both trainers have decent levels of grip in wet conditions.
The Vomero Premium has an extremely plush upper with tons of cushioning, especially in the tongue, heel tab and collar. It absorbs a lot of sweat due to all the padding so it’s not the best shoe for doing uptempo runs in or for running in really warm climates. It has a fully gusseted tongue so there’s no tongue slide and foot lockdown is excellent. It’s true to size but has the typical Nike narrow fit so it’s not the best shoe for wide feet. Its interior is more roomy than the Vomero Plus.
The Vomero Plus has a comfortable upper with far less padding than the Vomero Premium so it feels cooler to run in. It doesn’t have a gusseted tongue but the tongue doesn’t slide around because it’s wide enough to keep it in place during runs.
It’s also true to size with a narrow fit however its interior isn’s as spacious as the Vomero Premium. I don’t recommend it for wide footed runners.
If you’re looking for a softer, more cushioned ride, the Vomero Premium is the better shoe for you. It has a taller midsole with more cushioning depth but it can only handle relaxed, easy or recovery runs. It has a stiffer midsole with a more prominent forefoot rocker. The Premium has a more comfortable upper with more padding. If you need a more spacious upper, the Premium will also be more comfortable.
If you’re looking for a firmer, faster ride, the Vomero Plus is the better shoe for you. It has a thinner midsole that compresses less when loaded so transitions are faster. It has smoother ride transitions because it has no air units in its midsole. The Plus has a more stable ride and provides more support than the Premium. If outsole durability is important to you, the Plus is a more durable trainer than the Premium.
