This is just an overview, not a review. We did not test the Hyperion Tempo yet.
The Hyperion Tempo is a brand new shoe in the Brooks Speed range, designed for faster training runs and tempo runs. It was designed in partnership with Brooks fastest pro athletes to maximise the effects of your training runs.

All elements on the Hyperion Tempo are designed to keep the weight down, from the featherlight, breathable woven mesh upper, to the DNA Flash midsole offering lightweight cushioning and adaptive energy return. The soft midsole cushions the impact on the lower body joints meaning runners require less recovery time and can maximise training efficiency.

Where this shoe differs from others is Brooks' range is the nitrogen infused midsole. Building on their BioMoGo DNA midsole, the new DNA Flash gives a more dynamic response and a real pop on your run! It's also a more environmentally friendly option to boot.

The outsole has strategically placed rubber to protect the midsole but keep weight down, which will be a huge hit if you're a fan of a lightweight shoe.

Who is it for?

The Hyperion Tempo is recommended for runners looking for a training shoe for tempo runs (hence the name) who are willing to spend a little more for premium, technologies in a lightweight shoe. It will see you through training, giving impact cushioning to protect the joints, and will also be suitable to complete your half, or even full marathon in should you wish.

Believe in the Run

This is my favorite Brooks shoe of any I’ve run in over the last three years. It reminds me of the feeling I used to get out of the Nike Epic React, but slightly more firm. I didn’t get the exact pop I get in new React foam, or even HYPER BURST, but it does provide good energy return, especially when picking up the pace.

In colder weather (like under freezing), this foam definitely firms up. I got a couple runs in when it got back into the 50’s and it felt much better.

Also, it’s a great-looking shoe. It looks fast, and it is.

Coach Mag

I used the Tempo for a variety of runs and it was at its best on long, harder efforts, particularly a 12-mile progression and a ten-mile tempo run. I actually found it far more comfortable and faster than the Elite for this kind of running, and until the Hyperion Elite 2 comes out I’d say the Tempo is Brooks’s best marathon option for most runners – there is also the original Hyperion racing flat if you really feel there’s no need for any cushioning underfoot when racing.

One of the best light race training shoes out there that can also go the Kilo/miles. I easily did 17 ks in these. I was sceptical, then amazed at how well this shoe worked. Very light on your feet, my favorite shoe right now. Better than my NB Beacon v3, as it is more stable in the heel area.

Been wearing increasingly lighter Brooks shoes for speed and energy over the past few years (Ghosts originally before the Launch 3-8 series) when I decided to try this Tempo update of the Hyperion. Sailed through an easy 7 miles on their initial run and just love this shoe. My new fave.

If you ever tried the Brooks green silence and been looking for a similar shoe this is it, exactly the same feel. I wouldn’t call it responsive, you feel like Donald Duck just paddling away with ample albeit not energetic protection under foot. In my rotation it’s my least favorite shoe – for more than 10K I’d pick the Adios 6, for 5K or less the Adios 4, for a cushioned comfortable easy day regardless of distance the Brooks launch. This one is just a bit dull. Nothing wrong with it but not anything special. Oh a last note, the laces suck so bad, flimsy and gets untied all the time, had to be replaced.
