The Ghost Max 2 is for runners or walkers who want a shoe with a plush, rockered midsole that makes racking up miles easy.
It is not for someone who is looking for a racing shoe. They feel a little on the bulkier side and aren’t a shoe I would say I feel “fast” in.
The Brooks Ghoat Max 2 is a max-cushioned daily trainer that is best used for longer-distance road miles.
Brooks is known for making solid workhorse shoes, such as the Ghost and Glycerin. Time and time again they are always updated to please the users.
I will admit I was a Ghost-only user. I loved them, but after many years I took a break from them. So far, I love this updated version of the Ghost Max.
There haven’t been too many changes since last year but the few changes have made a big difference in all the right ways. Instead of using DNA Loft v2 foam in the midsole, the Ghost Max 2 features nitrogen-infused DNA Loft v3 foam. Other than that change, things have stayed the same. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
They are weighing in at 10.8 oz(306 g) for US M9 /9.5 oz(269g) for US W7.5. Looking at the stack height and drop, it’s 39mm in the heel and 33mm in the forefoot(6mm drop.)
Price-wise, you’re looking at $150. I can vouch that these are made of top-of-the-line, durable materials. I have worn them for well over 80 miles and there is little to no wear on them.
A good shoe to compare them to would be the Brooks Ghost 16. Both are very similar, but the Brooks Ghost 16 has a 12 mm drop, while the Brooks Ghost Max 2 has a 6mm with a decent amount of more cushioning. The Max 2 are more expensive.
Other shoes that remind me of them would be On’s Cloudsurfer or Hoka’s Clifton. Both shoes have a lot of cushioning with mild rockers.
My first impression of the Brooks Ghost Max 2 was a delightful one. I loved how they looked and the colorway I received. The gray and lavender colors work so well together and hide dirt. I am hard on my shoes, so I am always looking for shoes that stay clean for the longest.
The area of the shoe that caught my eye first was the midsole. Looking at them, you notice the rockered midsole that is built up. It visually looks very stable and studied.
Lacing them up for the first time, I noticed how comfortable they were. Not too cushioned, yet not too firm. They were firmer than I initially thought they were going to be. That being said, you feel the rockered midsole. Another area I was surprised about was how roomy the toe box was.
My first run in them was a road 5k. It was moderately paced since it was a recovery day for me. This is the ideal situation I have been using them for. I love them for slower recovery runs. I also have enjoyed them for longer distances at slower paces. The weight tends to make them feel on the heavier side and not something I would want to wear for race day or speed workouts.
Doing some research on them I discovered that they were awarded a seal of acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association and that they are designed to be compatible with all custom insoles and allow for them to slip in easily.
The upper is made out of a mesh material that is lighter in weight. I would not say that they are the most lightweight shoes I have ever worn, because that would not be true. Even though it is fall where I live, the weather has been very warm and I have noticed my feet feeling hotter than usual.
Brooks always does an amazing job with their uppers and the Ghost Max 2 is no exception. Looking a the previous upper you will notice little to no difference. The fit is true to size and the upper just hugs your foot in all the right places. There is just the right amount of room in the toe box area but if you need more room in them, they do come wide.
The tongue is guessed with ample padding that stays in place which makes sure you will have no hot spots or discomfort. Laces are standard and once you double knot them, they will stay in place and cause no issues.
When looking at the midsole you will notice how solid it looks and – well – that’s because it is.
The main focus of the technology is Brooks’ DNA Loft V3, which is a nitrogen-infused midsole foam that offers softness without risking stability.
Transitions are a piece of cake with the Ghost Max 2’s and this can be accredited to the GlideRoll Rocker. It’s in the upward curve at the heel to toe. This promotes smooth heel-to-toe transitions that make your runs feel effortless.
When you take a look at them from the back you will notice their broad base and raised side walls. This offers innate stability for a secure fit.
The outsole is made from a durable rubber that is strategically placed on the bottom of the shoe.
I can’t remember a time while wearing them that I had a problem with slipping or grip. In rainy conditions, on roads, sidewalks, and gravel paths, they did a great job taking on various surfaces.
The Brooks Ghost Max 2 is a perfectly cushioned and supportive everyday shoe.
Great for logging miles while running or walking. There isn’t anything I can say negative about them.
The build, the comfort, and the durability are top-notch. I have been recommending them to anyone who asks me.

Hoping someone can help – I’ve always worn regular Ghosts in a size 9 but wondering about the Max 2. My feet tend to swell on long runs and I’m a heel striker training for my first marathon. Anyone size up in these? Also curious how the drop feels compared to regular Ghosts?

Put these through their paces with 200+ miles of training and two half marathons. The max cushioning really shines on long runs – my legs feel much fresher compared to the regular Ghost 15. The stability is impressive for such a cushioned shoe. Used them for my recent half marathon PR and felt great throughout. While the upper does run warm, the comfort level is outstanding. They’ve become my go-to shoe for anything over 10 miles. Compared to the Glycerin 21, these feel more versatile while maintaining the plush feel Brooks is known for. Very satisfied with the durability so far.

Hit 200 miles in my Ghost Max 2s and they’re still going strong! Just finished my first marathon in them and couldn’t be happier. They do get a bit toasty during summer runs, but the comfort is worth it. Used to run in the Ghost 14s, and wow – the extra cushioning makes such a difference after those long Sunday runs. Even when I’m dragging at mile 20, they keep me stable. My running buddy swears by her Glycerin 20s, but I prefer how these respond while still being super comfy. Sure, the colors are kind of boring, but they perform so well I don’t even care.

Grabbed these on sale to replace my worn out Ghost Max 1s. The max cushioning is exactly what I need for recovery runs. Agree about the upper running warm – had to switch to thinner socks. Still breaking them in but so far they feel similar to version 1.

Clifton runner here looking to try something new – how much higher is the stack on these compared to the regular Ghost 15? My ankles can get a bit wobbly in max cushion shoes, so wondering if these feel stable enough for daily training. Anyone made a similar switch?

My Bondi 8s are about done and I’m thinking about trying something new. How’s the cushioning stack up? I do lots of long runs in Florida heat, so definitely need to know about the upper breathability! Also curious about sizing – my Hokas are 9.5 but I’ve heard Brooks can run different?

Hey runners! Looking at grabbing the Ghost Max but pretty confused about sizing. My regular Ghost 15s are perfect in 9.5, but my running buddy says the Max fits weird. Also wondering if they’re noticeably heavier? Training for my first half and don’t want anything too clunky.

Just switched from the original Ghost Max to these and honestly feeling mixed. Love how they tweaked the cushioning, but man, my feet are cooking in that new upper during my lunch runs. The new lacing is better for my high arches though. Wish Brooks would get more creative with colors – feeling some shoe envy when I see my running group’s bright Nikes!

I’ve logged 180 miles in the Ghost Max 2 and it’s become my favorite long run shoe. The max cushioning is perfect for my Sunday 15-milers – much more forgiving than the regular Ghost. Did my recent 20-mile training run in these with zero foot fatigue. The upper does run warm as noted, but the breathability improved after breaking them in. Compared to the Glycerin, these feel more stable and protective. Already ordered a second pair for marathon training. They’re not fast but for easy miles and recovery runs, they’re fantastic. Durability is impressive – minimal wear on the outsole so far.

Total newbie here – just finished Couch to 5K and ready to invest in proper shoes! My friend swears by her regular Ghosts, but I’m a bigger guy (210 lbs) and worried about cushioning. Would the Max version be better for someone my size? Currently running 3x week, mostly on pavement.

Been a Ghost loyalist for like 5 years and finally caved to try the Max version. Love that extra cushioning for my long runs, but man, my feet are cooking in these during afternoon runs. Probably keeping my regular Ghosts in rotation for those hot summer days in Texas!

After 300 miles in the Ghost Max 2, I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance as a daily workhorse. The max cushioning really shines on long runs – I’ve done multiple 20-milers preparing for Boston, and my legs feel fresher compared to the regular Ghost 15. While the upper does run warm as noted, the lockdown and stability are excellent. Used these for several marathon-paced training runs and they handle the tempo well despite the cushioning. Durability has been outstanding – minimal wear on the outsole. At $149.95, they’re a better value than many max-cushioned competitors. My only real complaint is the limited color options.

The Ghost Max 2 has exceeded my expectations after 200 miles of testing. As someone who typically runs in the regular Ghost, the added cushioning makes a noticeable difference on long runs. Recently completed an 18-miler and my legs felt great afterward. The stability is impressive for a max-cushioned shoe – no wobbling even when fatigue sets in. While the upper runs warm, the overall comfort is outstanding. More durable than my previous Hoka Bondi 7s. Did a progression run yesterday starting at 9:00/mile down to 7:30s and they handled all paces well. At $150, these are a better value than many max cushion options.

Hey runners! Looking at grabbing the Ghost Max 2 but kind of stuck on sizing. I’m usually a 9.5 in Brooks (my Ghost 15s fit perfect) but heard these might run big? Also wondering about the drop since I’m pretty sensitive to that. Don’t want any calf issues during training!

Been running in these Ghost Max 2s for about 150 miles now and gotta say, I’m loving them for my daily runs. They’re definitely plusher than my old Ghost 15s. Just knocked out a couple of 15-milers and my legs felt surprisingly fresh after. Yeah, the upper runs a bit warm, but the comfort makes up for it. These bad boys are holding up great – barely any wear showing. They feel way more stable than my old Invincible 3s. Only wish Brooks would drop some more color options. Perfect for those easy recovery days and long runs though!

These Ghost Max 2s have become my go-to daily trainers over the past month. I’ve logged about 100 miles in them, including several 15+ mile long runs. The cushioning is incredibly plush – noticeably more than the regular Ghost 15s I was using before. While they do run a bit warm as noted, the comfort level for long distances is outstanding. I especially appreciate the wider toebox compared to other Brooks models. Used them in a recent marathon training cycle and they performed beautifully on those slow, easy miles. My only real complaint is the limited colorway options. For pure comfort and reliability, they’ve been incredible.

The Ghost Max 2 has been my go-to shoe for the past 2 months of marathon training. The max cushioning really shines on long runs – did my 20-miler in these with zero foot fatigue. They’re more cushioned than the regular Ghost 15 but maintain the same stable ride Brooks is known for. Perfect for recovery days and easy miles. Used them for over 200 miles of training, including several 15+ mile runs. The DNA LOFT v2 midsole stays consistent even after high mileage. Only drawback is the warm upper, especially on humid days.

I recently just purchased my first pair of Brooks shoes for my bunions, after a lot of online reviews by expert’s I finally bought a pair of extra wide ebony-black ghost max2 this month January 2025 for a decent UK £145 for a uk size 8.
Till now my go to shoe (especially for the unpredictable London rainy weathe) was a waterproof Asics trabuco 10 GTX, which were not ideal for long walks, nor standing all day, but to my surprise the upper was quite soft on my bunions, didn’t aggravate them at all. Solid grip but minimal cushion & comfort. Then I went back to Asics they recommended the gel-kayano 29 (wide) for comfort+cushion for my bunions but the upper was as not as stretchable material compared to my first Asics trabuco, also the kayano 29 toe box( even in a wide version) was constraining & aggravating my bunions on the daily 2+miles walk, they were a waste of time & money.
The toe box in the ghost max2 is really spacious & is my go to shoe on normal dry days & on wet days it’s my old workhorse the trabuco 10 GTX’s.
Brooks need to launch a waterproof version of the ghost max2 & maybe give more depth in the rubber grip for those slippery & wet london underground stairs & floors.

The Ghost Max 2 has become my go-to shoe for both training and racing. I’ve completed two half marathons and countless training runs in these over the past three months. The max cushioning really shines on long runs – did a 20-miler and my legs felt surprisingly fresh afterward. While the upper does run warm as noted, the overall comfort and stability more than make up for it. Coming from the regular Ghost 15, the extra cushioning is noticeable but doesn’t feel cumbersome. The durability is impressive – minimal wear after 250 miles.

Nice comfortable running shoe so far. Wider toe box but still enough support for the sides and heel. Does feel a bit warmer than my previous shoes.

How does the Ghost Max 2 compare to the Brooks Glycerin series in terms of cushioning? I’m looking for something with max comfort for daily training.

For recovery runs, long distance walking & standing I would say the ghost max 2, but for the fast runs I would say the glycerin max will only do.
