The Metaspeed Sky is a carbon-plated racer designed specifically for stride runners who rely more on stride length over cadence to increase their speed. It has a design where the flat plate is situated closer to the foot than in the Edge version.
The Sky Tokyo is the 4th version in the series while the Sky Paris is the 3rd version. There are some significant differences between these two versions and this comparison will tell you which version is better suited to you.
The Sky Tokyo has a dual foam setup in its midsole. It has the firmer FF Turbo+, a PEBA foam on the top and the softer FF Leap, an A-TPU foam on the bottom. It has a larger portion of FF Leap than FF Turbo+ in its midsole.
The Sky Paris has a single foam setup. It has FF Turbo+ that forms the top and the bottom layer. This setup results in a firmer but more consistent ride than the Sky Tokyo.
The Sky Paris feels faster than the Tokyo because it has a firmer midsole that provides a firmer platform to push off from. The carbon plate in the Paris also feels more snappy because it has a firmer layer of foam underneath it to anchor it.
The Sky Tokyo has a softer, plusher ride due to all the FF Leap at the bottom of its midsole. There is also more bounce and more energy return than the Sky Paris.
If you need stability, the Sky Paris is the more stable, better option. It’s the better long run shoe because its midsole offers more stability. The Sky Tokyo requires you to have stronger ankles in order to stabilise your legs.
When it comes to outsole durability, the Sky Paris wins. It has a firmer midsole foam so the foam on the outsole that’s exposed doesn’t scuff as easily as the Sky Tokyo’s soft outsole. You should be able to get more mileage out of the Sky Paris.
The uppers of both racers are very similar in terms of design however the Sky Tokyo has a wider toe box that’s more accommodating than the Sky Paris. The Tokyo fits true to size but the Paris is a half size too small so you need to size up.
The upper mesh of the Sky Tokyo is also more breathable than the mesh of the Sky Paris. If your feet run warm, the Sky Tokyo is the better upper for you.
The collars of both are lightly padded so they are comfortable around the ankle however they have thin tongues which are not gusseted so they can fold over when you’re putting them on. Heel lockdown is good in both versions.
If you enjoy a softer, bouncier ride and you have strong ankles, the Sky Tokyo is the better option for you. It has a more lively midsole thanks to its FF Leap foam however it comes at the sacrifice of stability. It has a more comfortable upper which is also more breathable and has a better fit. If weight is important to you, the Sky Tokyo is a little bit lighter than the Paris. It costs $20 more than the Sky Paris.
If you need more support and you enjoy a firmer ride, the Sky Paris is the better racer for you. It’s the better long run trainer thanks to its extra stability. You can also get more propulsion from its plate due to the firmer foam underneath the plate that can anchor it so it feels faster. The Sky Paris has a more durable outsole than the Sky Tokyo.
