WHO IS IT FOR
This is best for runners in need of a trainer for marathon training. Ideal for runners who have moderate to severe over pronation.

Adidas is looking to harness the power of the sun with their new stability shoe, the Solar Glide ST. It is an everyday trainer that offers ample support.

If you are in need of something to build your base that will last a long time, this is your shoe. It has a bouncy, comfortable ride that is heavy duty without looking bulky.

Adidas Solarglide ST General Info

The Solar line is yet another new offering from Adidas. The Solar family has the Solar Boost, Solar Glide and Solar Glide ST. The ST in the name is to signify the stability components in the shoe.

Nearly identical to the Solarglide, the main difference is the medial side of the midsole that aids against over pronation.

It competes with other daily stability trainers such as Brooks’ Ravenna or ASICS’ GT 2000.

Right out of the box I was a fan of the shoe . The tire outsole and unique look of the heel were the first things that stood out to me. The shoe felt a little stiff lacing up for the first time but it handled well on my first run in them.

The first thing you’ll notice is the outsole. Adidas has long partnered with tire manufacturer Continental to produce a durable sole with lots of grip. 100 miles later in these, I was impressed with how well they held up.

The midsole is Adidas’ prized boost foam. It feels squishy to the touch and gives a very bouncy ride. The medial side has a denser foam to aid against over pronation and it works with the guide rails on each side of the shoe.

Utilizing condensed foam is nice because I didn’t feel weighed down. There’s ample support, but it isnt overwhelming.

The torsion bar had me landing and lifting off on my midfoot despite the larger 10mm drop. I was a huge fan of the amount of bounce on lift off. I could go relatively fast and still got the support I needed.

Adidas Solarglide ST Upper Info

The thing that stands out the most in the upper is the heel counter. Instead of a hard piece of plastic, there is thick mesh with plastic plating that splits at the achilles.

I was worried that I would be slipping out of the shoe, but it held me in nicely and gave my Achilles a wide range of movement.

The tongue is semi attached giving a booty like fit. It is plush and allowed me to lace up tight without any discomfort. It did fit true to size with not a lot of wiggle room in the toe box; so go half a size up if this bothers you.

The upper is a very thick material. While comfortable and flexible, it did not breathe well at all. Most runs had my feet completely drenched in sweat after about 5 miles. It would get so wet that the insoles would ride up constantly.

Adidas Solarglide ST Conclusions

Overall, I liked running in these. The comfortable ride and moderate stability made the miles go by like it was nothing. I was even more impressed with the durability of the shoe. There was minimal wear at the end of my testing.

I do wish the upper breathed better. Having soggy, squishy feet every time got old quick. This may work better as a winter shoe.

I always have trouble following Adidas when it comes to running. Every time I turn around, a new line is being introduced. The solar guide ST is a solid shoe and I hope it stays around for some time.

We purchased a pair of Adidas Solarglide ST from runningwarehouse using our own money. This did not influence the outcome of this review, written after running more than 50 miles in them.
