This is a great choice for the individual who wants a daily trainer that offers all-day comfort. I would also recommend them to someone who doesn’t want a massive shoe collection. They can suit various needs, such as long distances, tempo runs, leisure walks, and some race-day miles.
I would not recommend this shoe to someone who is looking for a very plush shoe. It’s similar to a max cushioned shoe but on the firmer side.
The ON Cloudsurfer Next was made to be a max cushioned shoe with top-of-the-line technology. Out of all the shoes I have used over the past year, I would say these have the most bells and whistles.
In a new updated presentation, they are built with the same CloudTec Phase cushioning as the Cloudsurfer.
On states that the new version, the Cloudsurfer Next, adds some new “race-inspired features.’ When learning of this, I thought how couldn’t this shoe be awesome? The Cloudsurfer is a fan favorite, plus adding some racing shoe technology must make this a hit. Compared to the main model, a lot has been changed to improve it.
Some of the technology includes the CloudTec Phase midsole that compresses in line to help create a nice smooth rolling feeling from your heel to your toe. On also includes their Helion super foam that adds to making your run feel effortless.
When talking about how On has made this shoe more of a race day shoe, you will have to check out the upper. They have modeled it after their top race day shoes.
They will cost $150.00 which may seem a little steep but when compared to other daily trainers, they are comparable. On always outdoes themselves with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Just looking at them you can visibly see their worth.
Other quick facts about them include, they are lightweight, coming in at 9.6oz for the men’s and 7.93oz for the women’s. Even though they look a little unstable due to the thick midsole, you’ll be very pleased that they are very stable due to the 6mm heel-to-toe drop.
I have no doubt in my mind about if I’m going to visually like the way an On shoe looks. They just know how to design an aesthetically pleasing shoe. The Cloudsurfer Next is no exception. It gives off a max-cushioned vibe and does feel similar to one but leans more on the stiffer side.
I bought the all-white color which I do love, but just hate how quickly they attract dirt. The upper on the Cloudsurfer Next is fantastic but does look dirty very quickly.
They are a shoe that you don’t have to break in. The first run I took them out on was a 10-mile road run and they felt great. I had no major issues with comfort except for how I laced them. I laced them up a little too tight on my one foot and it caused some discomfort on the top of my foot. I adjusted how I tied them and I was ok.
My favorite lacing system an On shoe is from the Cloudstratus 3. No matter how I tie them they are always very pleasing to the top of my foot and are so comfy. That is another On shoe I would highly recommend.
They fit true to size. While most On shoes run on the narrower side, the Cloudsurfer Next is not narrow.
On offers them in a variety of neutral colors. Nothing over the top or crazy color schemes. I purchased the white/flame color and I was very pleased with how they looked.
The upper is superb. On has taken their technology from their race day shoes and added it to the Cloudsurfer Next. It’s awesome.
They are made from a highly light-engineered woven upper that gives you a flawless fit. Looking at them you will notice that there is very little stitching that makes them feel like there is nothing on your feet.
The heel counter is nicely built up with ample padding. I had no problems with rubbing or discomfort.
On has a way with one upping your typical standard laced shoe. On adds petite loops that run up both sides of the top of the foot.
When I would pull them to secure them for a run, I loved how they felt as they hugged my feet.
The midsole is what you look at mostly with the On brand. This pair is no different. The cloud pods are their signature key focal point. As I stated before, the midsole has CloudTec Phase technology and combined it combined with the Helion superfoam.
This has been used in many of the newer On shoes and it allows you to experience the forward roll with some cushioning and lets you pick up speed. One of the things I noticed was the forefoot rocker design, it made my runs feel easier and allowed me to have a quicker turnover. They have been my go-to for faster run days.
The outsole is made of a durable rubber that covers the entire bottom of the shoe. There is one narrow strip that is missing, it runs up the middle of the shoe. This was done to help shave off some weight.
I took them out for many runs in the rain since we have had a lot of it lately and I had no problems with slipping. They did a nice job drying out promptly. I have some shoes, that once they are wet, stay wet for days.
The ON Cloudsurfer Next is a great choice for those who are looking for a daily trainer.
They work exceptionally well for faster mid-distance runs.
It has even been in my rotation for all my speed workouts. They are great upgrade and I highly recommend them!

Put about 150 miles on the Cloudsurfer Next and really loving them! The CloudTec cushioning feels more refined than previous On shoes – snappy for tempo runs but still comfy on easy days. Crushed my recent half in these and they felt great start to finish. The upper breathes so much better than the old version. They’re definitely an investment, but holding up great so far. Only downside is they get pretty dirty looking (especially the light colorway). Definitely more versatile than my Nike Invincible 3s.

Just switched from my beat-up Cloudflows to these last week. The new cushioning is definitely plusher but still has that firm On feel I’m used to. Bit expensive though – could grab some Ghosts or Rides for way less.

The Cloudsurfer Next has become my go-to shoe for both training and casual wear. After 150+ miles, the cushioning still feels fresh and responsive. I’ve used these for everything from track workouts to a recent half marathon (1:45). The breathable upper is a huge improvement over the previous Cloudsurfer, though it does show dirt easily. The pod design takes some getting used to but provides excellent energy return, especially during tempo runs. Compared to the HOKA Clifton 9 I was using before, these feel more stable and responsive. The $150 price point is justified by the versatility and durability. My only minor gripe is that small rocks occasionally get stuck in the pods.

Tried these on at my local running store yesterday. The new CloudTec pods feel much more stable than previous On models I’ve worn. Price is steep compared to my usual Brooks Ghost but the premium materials might justify it. Anyone else notice the sizing runs small?

After 150 miles in the Cloudsurfer Next, I’m thoroughly impressed with On’s evolution. The CloudTec pods provide noticeably better cushioning than previous models, while maintaining that signature responsive feel. I use these primarily for my daily 6-8 mile runs and they excel at moderate paces. The upper breathability is outstanding – no issues even on humid summer runs. Compared to my old Cloudflow, these have much better impact protection while still feeling snappy. They’re pricey at $150 but the build quality is excellent – no signs of wear yet. My only minor gripe is they do show dirt easily on the white midsole. For reference, I’ve run in Hokas and Brooks but keep coming back to On.

I’ve put about 200 miles on the Cloudsurfer Next and it’s exceeded my expectations. The cushioning feels perfectly balanced – enough for long runs but still responsive for pickup miles. Used these for a recent half marathon (1:45) and they performed beautifully. The upper breathability is fantastic and I’ve had zero hot spots or blisters. Coming from the Cloudflow, these feel more substantial but not heavy. The traction has been great even on wet roads. My local running group has noticed several people switching to these from traditional brands like Brooks and Nike. While $150 isn’t cheap, the durability so far suggests they’ll last 400+ miles easily. They’ve handled everything from easy 5 milers to 20 mile long runs without issue.

Tried these on at my local running store today. The price point is steep compared to my usual Brooks Ghost, but the build quality seems exceptional. The newer Cloud elements definitely feel more stable than previous On models I’ve tested. Still on the fence about pulling the trigger though.

After trying several On models, the Cloudsurfer Next has become my go-to trainer. I’ve logged over 250 miles in them, including several half marathons. The cushioning hits a sweet spot – protective enough for long runs but still responsive for tempo work. Did a recent 15-mile progressive run and they felt great throughout. The upper breathability is excellent compared to previous On shoes I’ve tried. Despite the price tag, the durability has been impressive – barely any wear showing on the outsole. They handle better than the Cloudflow for faster paces and feel more stable than the Cloudmonster. Only minor complaint is they do show dirt easily but that’s cosmetic. Solid 9/10 for versatility and comfort.

Long-time Cloudsurfer fan here – just took the plunge on the Next version. Gotta say, the new foam’s definitely more lively, but I kinda miss that old-school firm feel. Having a hard time justifying the price when I could grab some Ghosts or Gel-Cumulus for less.

I’ve been curious about ON shoes and how the Cloudsurfer stacks up against something like the Brooks Ghost or the Saucony Ride. How does it handle longer distances (10+ miles)? Anyone had experience with both?
