WHO IS IT FOR
This shoe is designed for the runner who needs stability control. The Sequence Boost 8 should be considered in the middle of the wheel-house for stability control shoes.

Right out of the box my impression of this shoe was, “wow, I haven’t worn something this heavy in years”.

At a whopping 10.9 ounces the Sequence Boost 8 should not be considered a “heavy” shoe for its class, but coming from someone who typically wears lightweight trainers like the Saucony Kinvara or Pearl Izumi N2 it felt like a block between my foot and the ground.

After a few runs when I had molded the cushion to my foot and got past the shock of 3-5 ounces weight difference I began to appreciate the Sequence Boost 8 for what it was: a comfortable layer of protection from the ground.

I noticed the relief my feet felt at not having to respond to the ground with every step. It felt like a little break from training while still being able to run.

Adidas Supernova Sequence Boost 8 Sole Info

The sole of the Sequence Boost 8 is truly my favorite part of this shoe. It is flush, without many divots. It’s nearly impossible to get a rock stuck in it.

The ride is real smooth on the road though it can be a little clunky on rough trail since there are no divots to absorb and conform around rocks, roots, and other debris.

The sole boasts a full-length EVA Stable Frame. The frame, the blue structure wrapping from the toe all the way around the heel, is the primary piece that makes this a stability shoe.

What makes this different from similar shoes is precisely that the frame wraps all the way around. Many shoes only provide a stability truss-rod or dense rubber right under the arch.

This structure I believe guides your foot through the whole step rather than just pressing under your arch to provide support.

Adidas Supernova Sequence Boost 8 Upper Info

The upper is primarily mesh with sturdier synthetic material overlays built into the lace eyelets. The tongue is a glove fit inside the shoe but is given some freedom to move at the ankle. The mesh is fairly thick and doesn’t shed water easily.

The glove fit conforms the shoe to your foot. With a regular width foot this shoe fits comfortably snug, not wide or narrow, and doesn’t constrict when sized appropriately.

The one issue I had with this shoe during the review process was the tongue slipping up over the wall of the shoe and rubbing against my ankle while running.

I typically leave the laces a little looser at the top. A tighter lacing may keep the tongue down.

Adidas Supernova Sequence Boost 8 Conclusions

The Adidas Supernova Sequence Boost 8 makes for a good everyday shoe for someone who needs mild stability control to correct over pronation.

Use it as a mileage shoe to rack up your aerobic miles on any given day. It will protect your feet, you will feel like there is a pleasant barrier between your foot and the ground.

Coming from someone who typically wears neutral lightweight trainers, this shoe is not designed for racing or workouts.

You will feel encumbered if you try to take these to the track for intervals. But if a little more structure and stability is what you need this shoe is a good option that will have a decent lifespan due to its sturdy design.

We thank the nice people at Adidas for sending us a pair of Supernova Sequence Boost 8 to test. This did not influence the outcome of the review, written after running more than 50 miles in them.
