Asics Gel Nimbus 22 Intro
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 breaks the mold on running shoes. This version in my opinion is the gold standard of road running shoe. The comfort of this shoe is second to none.
It appears that Asics listened to the consumer’s issues over the past few iterations of the Nimbus and have produced a shoe that delivers on the established reputation that ASICS has built in the running community.
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 is an updated version of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 21. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 now offers slightly more cushioning than the ASICS Gel Nimbus 21 provided.
The shoe is not necessarily built for speed but what it is built for is high mileage.
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 continues the use of the flytefoam for the midsole and the gel cushioning in the heel and weighs nearly the same as its predecessor.
I would categorize the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 as a neutral running shoe that is in the same category as the Brooks Ghost, Saucony Triumph ISO 5, and the Nike Air Zoom Vomero.
Asics Gel Nimbus 22 First Impressions
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 are visually appealing…as in they are one cool looking running shoe. I enjoy the fact that they are not bright, in your face colors.
The fit is secure and more than comfortable and also offers a secure feeling when running. The first run in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 was to put it lightly a dream.
They fit true to size and the responsiveness and comfort came through with each strike. After completing 5 miles my feet felt energized and fresh…often times for me this is not the case when running.
Asics Gel Nimbus 22 Sole Unit
The sole unit is one of the most appealing aspects of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 offers gel cushioning that truly enhances the absorption of shock which will in the end make running more comfortable.
The flytefoam (which runs the length of the midsole) in addition to the gel cushioning offers responsiveness as well as flexibility.
Putting these two elements together provides not only superior cushioning when running but when running on light trails provides adequate protection for your feet against rocks etc.
Another aspect that I truly enjoyed about the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 is the tread. Tread is not normally considered sexy but here I was thoroughly impressed.
Running in Colorado can be unpredictable as it is not unusual to get all four seasons in one day. The tread on the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 provided great traction on wet, icy and snowy roads.
The traction is also more than suited to provide adequate traction while trail running and the depth of the tread does not collect a copious amount of rocks.
Overall the sole unit of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 is in a league of its own.
Asics Gel Nimbus 22 Upper Unit
The upper material is lightweight and very breathable. When running in cooler temperatures I did find that the breathability of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 was a catch 22.
Meaning that until you got things going and warmed up the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 did leave my feet cold. But again, it is a catch 22 as that was a welcomed benefit as the runs progressed.
The upper material is a lightweight mesh and it should be noted that when running on trials I encountered a rouge stick and it tore the mesh. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 fit true to size.
I was impressed with how secure my foot felt from heel to tow. There is enough room in the toe box for my toes to be secured but not feel overly restricted.
Asics Gel Nimbus 22 Conclusion
In the end, running in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 was like running on the back of an angel. I absolutely loved this shoe!
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 delivers on its promise to supply you with a comfortable, cushioned shoe that you can run in for miles and miles.
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 is an upgrade from the ASICS Gel Nimbus 21 as the midsole is thicker. This thickness ads to the responsiveness of the overall feel of the shoe.
Overall, I was impressed with how well the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 held up to multiple runs over multiple days. I never felt as if the shoe lost any bounce.
I even took them to the gym a few times and ran on the treadmill and then lifted. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 also served well as a cross trainer for the gym.
I liked that since I often will take 2 pairs of shoes to the gym, one for running and then one for lifting.
Even though the price of the shoe is on the higher end…I would easily recommend the ASICS Gel Nimbus 22 for this cost since you will get your monies worth. If I could sum this shoe up in one word it would be comfy.
We purchased a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus 22 from runningwarehouse using our own money. This did not influence the outcome of this review, written after running more than 50 miles in them.
