Why You Should Run: Because You Can

Something I heard yesterday hit me hard.
Sofia is a 15 year old girl who suffers from Spina Bifida, a problem with the spinal cord that creates different kind of mobility problems. Her condition left her unable to move her legs.
She was guest yesterday on a radio station to promote Dynamo Camp, a wonderful initiative for kids.
What hit me hard was when asked about her dreams, Sofia replied that in many of her dreams she does not have her handicap and she is happy.
Then she said “If I ever healed from my disease, the first thing I would do is to go for a run“.
You should run because you can. You should honor the gift you have been given.
The next time you are on the couch wondering “shall I go for a run or stay here and be lazy?”, try and think that there are thousands of kids whose only desire would be to be able to stand up and run.
Imagine being a kid and your biggest dream, every single day of your life, has been to be able to go for that run. Run for that kid. Cherish the gift you had the luck to receive.
Sofia’s interview is here below (it’s in Italian, but you should see her smile).
The charity is called Dynamo Camp, and it’s the italian installment of a world-wide initiative called SeriousFun, started in 1988 by actor Paul Newman.
