After the (barely) failed attempt two years ago in Monza, Italy – Eliud Kipchoge was finally successful in achieving a 1:59:40 Marathon today in Vienna.

What shoes was he wearing?

Kipchoge with all his pacers

As you can see in the picture above, from the ineos159challenge official Instagram account, Kipchoge has a team of 41 of the top runners in the world for pacing.

You can see all of them wearing the pink Nike Zoom Vaporfly Next%, including Kipchoge.

These were not the shoes he worn during the event.

The Kenyan athlete was wearing a white pair of Nikes.

Nike has not revealed yet what exact shoes Kipchoge was wearing but Runner’s World mentions they had information from an industry insider revealing it is a follow-on of the shoes the athlete has been wearing in Berlin and London this year, and that is substantially more efficient than the previous versions. SneakerNews published these images where we can see these shoes more in detail.

This brand new model has the same the “fast” aesthetic while with what looks like a completely new sole. We can clearly see a Zoom Air unit sticking out from the forefoot. The upper also shares some new technology with Atomknit.

Nike has been dominating the World Marathon Majors since last year at least – the accomplishment of today further cements Nike’s dedication and effort in creating the fastest possible long distance running shoes.

We are sure we will be learning more about Eliud Kipchoge shoes in the coming months, but for the moment we just want to celebrate this historical moment in sport history.

People thought it couldn’t be done, but here we are with a sub 2 hour Marathon, and a champion to remember.
