Somnio Running

Somnio Running

American inventor Charles Goodyear created the process of the vulcanization of rubber in 1844, this would lead to the concept of the “sneaker” in the early 1900s and eventually athletic shoes of all types came along in the 1960s and ’70s. Despite having more choices in shoe styles, people tend to have a love hate relationship with their shoes. Wouldn’t it be great if you could create a shoe that has everything you want? Now you can. It’s called Somnio. This is the only customized running shoe on the market today.

Somnio’s exclusive system lets you create nearly any shoe with almost endless possibilities. This is accomplished with the use of three interchangeable components that use a runner’s particular running style and unique biomechanics to custom fit the ideal shoe for that individual by focusing on factors such as correct arch support, running surface and the weight of the runner. The ultimate goal is achieve a proper alignment among the ankle, foot and lower leg.

The idea behind Somnio shoes is simple. Running shoes should fit the runner, not the other way around. Somnio shoes use the company’s exclusive Functionally Engineered Adaptable Tricomponent System (F.E.A.T.). featuring customizable components able to be adjusted to achieve the ideal gait-efficient fit for the runner. Runners have a selection of six base models (Stability, Motion Control, Trail, Neutral, Lightweight Neutral, Cushioned Motion Control) and 12 adjustable inserts with 11,664 possible configurations per shoe size to create the ideal running shoe for men and women.

The customizable parts of Somnio shoes include:

• Interchangeable foot-beds designed to fit a runner’s arch height
• Interchangeable IndX cushion inserts to provide customized cushioning based on a runner’s weight and usage
• Tunable Varus angulation to fit a runner’s biomechanical needs

Somnio shoes help runners get the most out of an active and busy lifestyle while getting the most out of the experience. Those who run on a regular basis enjoy a number of additional health benefits. Unfortunately, running with a shoe not properly designed for your feet can cause a whole new set of health issues, especially for your feet and lower legs. Somnio solves that problem and allows you to enjoy the full benefits of running and a healthy, active life.

Somnio’s customized running shoes help relieve many foot problems common among runners. Common foot ailments from running shoes not properly fitted or adjusted include blisters, subungual hematoma or black toenails (commonly associated with long distance running), bunions (may result in joint swelling), corns, numbness or a tingling sensation (usually caused by wearing running shoes that are too tight or that do not fit the foot correctly) and Plantar Fasciitis (an inflammation of tissue at the bottom of the foot).

Somnio shoes have been tested on real runners to refine the specific designs and identify common problem areas runners experience. Somnio’s unique customized running shoe has been named the Must Have Gear for 2010 by National Geographic Adventure and Best Custom Fit by Women’s Running. Somnio running shoes are designed to target the basic parts of a running shoe in relation to the wearer’s feet to allow the shoe to fit the runner.

Somnio (“dream” in Latin) was founded in 2009 by Sean Sullivan following chronic pain he experienced while running. Sullivan went to Boulder Center for Sports Medicine and discovered the problem was with his shoes. Sullivan created Somnio with the concept that running shoes should be designed to adapt to the runner by preventing better biomechanics and a personalized fit to provide a better running experience.
